LOA Guidelines
Since the beginning of thestudio we have not clarified the policies and guidelines for LOAs so here they are for 2019.
- All LOAs in thestudio will be granted only for paid film, television, cable, streaming or equity theater work. This will include acting primarily but Directing, Producing and Writing will be granted although on a much stricter basis and will have to be union work only. LOAs will only apply on the dates of work. Of course travel considerations will be applied if you are out of country.
If the appropriate LOA form is not filled out and submitted for approval on a timely basis, the LOA will not be granted. The main reasons for these guidelines are as follows.
- We want all members of thestudio to strive for professional acting work, both union and non-union. We are primarily an acting studio and our main goal is to train professional working actors. Hence only paid acting work is covered under our LOAs.
- We have priced the tuition for classes such that thestudio operates on very tight margins and we will not raise our tuition to cover those LOAs loses that are not acting related. We are closing the working number of members at 67 and so capping our income. Each membership is counted on for the financial health of thestudio.
- The achieving of professional acting work and the receiving of an LAO for such work is a much deserved benefit and goal for all members of thestudio.
- The broad and ambiguous guidelines needed for granting LOAs across the spectrum of related artistic fields would be impossible to manage, organize, prioritize and be fair and equitable for all. We have members in thestudio who are dancers, painters, teachers of music and dance, choreographers, singers, musicians, comedians, writers, directors, producers etc. If we granted them the ability to pursue these areas of training or work as LOAs thestudio would lose it’s focus and purpose. We would need 80-90 working members in order to be able to meet our fiduciary responsibilities. Or conversely raise our tuition. Which we will not do.
- One exception to these
guidelines is that we will and have already granted medical
LOAs. These are evaluated on a case by case basis.
Please fill out and submit the appropriate LOA request form ASAP so that we are aware of your request and able to respond in kind. You will be responsible for the scheduled scene slots you have been given during your LOA and follow the appropriate guidelines for filling those slots. Please do not leave this responsibility to the booking manager, this is your responsibility.
As the studio continues to grow we expect the requests for LOAs to grow as well. We can all celebrate.
